I had the privilege of attending the Africa Climate Action Conference (Sandton, South Africa) which was a successful event by the pioneers of the first carbon credit market in Africa, the Africa Voluntary Carbon Credits Market, special thanks to my learned friend Adv. Nsikelelo Mafa.

The cultural diversity that came with this conference was top-tier. I loved how women are taking the initiative to be the lead for this global initiative. Dr. Alex Tsela said something interesting about Africa & I quote, “It’s called green energy thus making AFRICA the King coz we’ve plenty of sun.” There is a need to create a balance between climate action & energy for economic growth. How best can the African continent gravitate towards the things within their control to being the leaders of climate action initiatives?
The success of most organizations is going to be based on how efficient their ESG policy is and as a real estate & legal bae I learnt something important about how we can revolutionize the industry.
In Zimbabwe, the connection between real estate and carbon credits stems from the increasing focus on sustainable development and environmental conservation. By adopting environmentally-friendly
construction methods and incorporating energy-efficient technologies, developers can potentially earn carbon credits. The sale of carbon credits can have both economic and environmental impacts
on Zimbabwe. On the economic front, it provides an additional revenue stream for real estate developers and landowners who engage in sustainable practices
The income generated from selling carbon credits can be reinvested in further sustainable development projects, contributing to the growth of the economy. Additionally, the sale of carbon credits encourages the preservation and restoration of natural ecosystems in Zimbabwe.
A special thank you to the AVCCMF team and everyone that came through. I was impressed by the collaboration from African governments for this initiative, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Sudan, Uganda & South Africa Governments.
